25 Billion App Contest

http://threeacts.mrmeyer.com/25billionapps/act2/timer.pdf

Dan Meyer is having a contest on who will be the 25 billion person to buy an app on the app store. Every minute there is about 33,800 people that downloaded an app. Friday February 24, its 6:27 pm and there’s 24,658,507,655 apps downloads, a minute later there’s about 33,800 more apps downloaded. 16 minutes later there’s 24,659,054,476 apps downloaded. There has been 546,821 downloads in 16 minutes. In an hour at 7:27 pm, there has been 2,028,000 downloads so now there’s 24,661,082,476, but you should wait longer than an hour because it’s not close to 25 billion yet. A day later it would be Saturday February 25, 7:27 pm now there is 24,709,754,476 downloads. It’s still to early to update an app yet, so maybe lets wait one more day and see if we should download yet. Now it’s Sunday February 26 at 7:27 pm and now there’s 24,758,426,476, it’s still way to early, Lets wait 3 more days until we download an app. I multiplied 24 and 3 and I got 1,728 then I multiplied 60 and 3 and I got 180. Then I added 1,728 and 180 together and I got 1,908. Then I multiplied 1,908 and 33,800 together and got 64,490,400, now I’m going to add 64,490,400 to 24,758,426,476 and I got 24,822,916,876 and that is on March 1 at 7:27 pm. Were almost there lets try one more day. So it’s March 2 at 7:27 pm and we need to find how many updates there are today. So I multiplied 24 and 60 and I got 1,440 and now I multiplied 1,440 and 33,800 and I got 48,672,000. Then I added 48,672,000 to  24,822,916,876 and I got 24,871,588,876 it’s still to early to download, so lets wait 2 more days. 60*2=120. 24*2=48. 48*120=5,760. 5,760*33,800=194,688,000. 194,688,000+24,871,588,876=25,066,276,876. So now it’s to late to download so maybe we should wait a couple hours before 7:27 pm. So I think you should download an app on March 2 at around 4:30 pm because there’s 33,800 downloads per minute and if you divide 33,800 by 25,066,276,876 and you get 741,605 and then divide 741,605  by 33,800 and got 21. So I did the calculations and I think you should  download an app on Tuesday March 2 around 4:30 pm and hopefully you will win.

How to find the Slope of a Line

slope
How to find the slope of a line. First you need to figure out if the slope is positive or negative. If the line goes up hill from left to right its negative. If the line is going down hill from left to right its negative, and in this picture the line is positive so it has a positive slope. So after you figure out if the slope is positive or negative then you need to find points on the line. You need to find two points that are exactly on the line. After you find two points on the line then you need to count how much it goes up and how much it goes across to get to the other point. In this picture it goes up 4, which is the Y axis , and it goes across 3. So the slope of this line is 4/3.

Now another way to find a slope of a line is to subtract the Y-Y and X-X. So the first dot is on -1,-2 and the second dot is on 2,2. The fist number is the X and the second number is the Y. So the Y number goes on top so I like to subtract the Y numbers first, so -2-2=-4 so the top number of the slope is -4. Then I subtract the X numbers together, -1-2=-3. So the bottom number o my slope is -3. If both the numbers are negative you change it to a positive. So the slope of this line is 4/3. So that’s how you find a slope of a line.

Math Class

Math class is going pretty well. I like how Riley is in my class because she helps me when I need help and I guess shes funny. I understand everything we do in math and its just going good.

First Nine Weeks

For the first nine weeks we learned to add and subtract positive and negative number. I can add and subtract positive and negative numbers pretty well but it can be a little confusing sometimes. We also learned to multiply and divide negative numbers and that’s pretty easy as well, but it can be a little confusing sometimes but other than that I get it. Yes I can form the distributive property good. I can combine likes terms but combing like terms using the distributive property is harder, I understand it but then I don’t at the same time its confusing but I’m getting it. I can evaluate positive, zero, and negative exponents. That is easy to me I get it really well. I can simplify expressions using exponents, that is easy to me as well. So this nine weeks in math class  have been easy and not easy at the same time, but math is always like that. If you keep trying you will eventually get it and it will be easier to you. For this nine weeks I would give myself a B or maybe an A, because I understand all we have done this nine weeks.

Estimating Square Root of 79

I estimated that the square root of 79 is 8.9. First of all I found the perfects squares above and below 79. 64 is the perfect square before 79 and 81 is the perfect square after 79.   8*8 is 64 and 9*9 is 81. To get the mid way point between these numbers I got the midway point of 8 and 9 and its 8.5. So i added 8.5 to 64 and got 72.5. So 72.5 is the midway point. 79 is closer to 81 then to 72.5 so the number will be higher than 5. So it has to be 8.6, 8.7, 8.8, or 8.9. So now I started to eliminate numbers, I eliminated 8.6 and 8.7 because 79 is only two spaces away from 81 so it has to be a higher number. So now I typed it in the calculator and got 8.88 so I rounded it to 8.9. The the square root of 79 is about 8.9.

Second Test

I thought the second test was pretty simple. Irrational and Rational numbers are pretty easy. Rational numbers are numbers you can turn into a fraction. Irrational numbers are numbers that cant be fractions. Then turning fractions into decimals is really easy to just put it over 9, 99, or 999. So I thought the second test was pretty easy.

The First Test

The first test we took in math class was a little confusing, but when I kept practicing it I finally got it some what. Adding and subtracting negative number is kind of confusing sometimes, its a little confusing but I think I got it down now. So yeah the first math test was kind of hard and then when you keep practicing you will eventually get it.

About Me

My name is Callie, and I go to Blennerhassett Middle School. I live in Parkersburg West Virginia. I have two sister, ones fifteen and ones thirteen like me, shes my twin. I have six animals, three dogs and three cats. I really want a pet turtle and a pet chicken to but I dont think my parents will let that happen. I play travel soccer and I run track but that’s all the sports I do. My friends Riley, Kathryn, and Audrie we do everything together. Our parents call us the four musketeers. On my free time I like to jump on the trampoline and go in the woods with my sister Audrie. So thats pretty much my life, its pretty boring. My life is soccer and the four musketeers.
